Energy Days 2015: Bringing secure, clean and efficient energy closer to home

The European Union’s Energy Days are helping to spread the word about secure, clean and efficient energy. Up to 500 presentations, workshops, exhibits, concerts, games, quizzes, displays and other activities are expected to attract many thousands of visitors across Europe and beyond. Nearly a quarter of the events will take place in Brussels around the EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) and Policy Conference, with the rest organised throughout June in locations scattered across the EU’s 28 Member States and associated countries, including Turkey, Serbia, Moldova, Georgia, Ukraine, Norway and Iceland.

Private companies, public authorities, energy agencies, NGOs, cooperatives, chambers of commerce, industry and consumers associations, media, educational institutions, research and technology centres have all signed up to host this year’s exciting calendar of events.

The background: more than a Day or even a Week

Energy Days are a major feature of the EUSEW, which seeks to spread best practices, inspire new ideas and build alliances to help shape the EU’s Energy Union. Now in its tenth year, EUSEW is Europe’s flagship event for all stakeholders exploring the best ways to meet the EU’s energy and climate goals. Organised with the support of the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EASME) in consultation with the European Commission, it features activities dedicated to energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions across Europe.

This year, the annual Policy Conference in Brussels, 16-18 June, focuses on the role of responsible consumers in the new Energy Union. As part of this, the Sustainable Energy Awards recognise the best projects of the year in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions. Winners will be announced during a ceremony in Brussels on 16 June by Jerzy Buzek, former Polish Prime Minister and now head of the European Parliament’s Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) Committee.

Miguel Arias Cañete, EU Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy, Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of Energy Union, and other dignitaries will also be on hand to help celebrate the 10th anniversary of EUSEW in style.

About The EU Sustainable Energy Week

The European Sustainable Energy Week is a month-long series of activities to build a secure energy future for Europe. It includes the EUSEW Policy Conference, Energy Days and Networking Village and the EU Sustainable Energy Awards. Launched in 2006, EUSEW is organised by the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EASME) in close cooperation with Directorate-General for Energy. It brings together public authorities, private companies, NGOs and consumers to promote initiatives to save energy and move towards renewables for clean, secure and efficient power.
